The World Health Day is celebrated annually on April 7 to raise awareness towards global wellbeing. The right to health is a basic human right for everyone, everywhere. Keeping in mind this year 2024 theme for World Health Day is “ MY HEALTH MY RIGHT”: which focuses on the fundamental human right to access quality health care, education, and information.
The right to health is not the same as the right to be healthy. The right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, rather than an unconditional right to be healthy.
The right to health contains entitlement:
- The right to prevention, treatment, and control of disease.
- Access to essential medicines.
- Equal and timely access to basic services.
- Provision of health-related information and education.
- Maternal, child, and reproductive health.
- Provide equal opportunity for everyone to enjoy the highest attainable level of health.
Objectives of World Health Day 2024:
Advocate for Universal Health Coverage: Highlight the need for accessible, affordable, and quality health care for everyone, everywhere.
Promote Health Equity: Address inequalities in health access and outcomes, particularly for the most vulnerable and marginalized populations.
Encourage Healthy Behaviors: Foster awareness and action on living healthy lifestyles to prevent disease and improve quality of life.
Strengthen Health Systems: Support the development of resilient health systems capable of meeting global health challenges and emergencies.
